SiX Repro's Rapid Response Room featured guest speaker Kimberly Diaz Scott, MPA from the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA). This phenomenal talk highlighted the history of decimating family planning programs, the subsequent resilience to meet rising need with shrinking resources, and the devastating impact and lingering uncertainty of the current attacks. She warned legislators that the same tactics that have been used to target abortion care are being repurposed to target contraception, STI services, and gender-affirming care. She concluded by encouraging lawmakers to champion specific policies to expand and protect access to family planning.

As an introduction to abortion funds, she explained that by design, these community organizations serve people facing the most barriers to care. She went on to detail the herculean effort to meet the ever increasing need as many funds face an influx of out-of-state requests for support and are forced to close their helplines several days each month due to lack of funds. She concluded by encouraging lawmakers to boldly legislate to provide resources to abortion funds and end discriminatory insurance practices.

In collaboration with the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, the agenda addresses urgent realities and builds a path forward, centering three key pillars of reproductive justice: Healthy Body, Healthy Families and Communities, and Healthy Democracy.
