State Innovation Exchange (SiX) published a 2026 Midyear Analysis on State Policy Trends. The report covers major legislative trends seen in state legislatures this year, including abortion bans, contraception, pregnancy criminalization, maternal health, and young people’s access to sexual and reproductive healthcare.

Correction: A previous version of the report had categorized a Tennessee law (TN S.B. 1681/H.B. 1943) as providing new protections for emergency care for pregnant folks, however there was a last-minute amendment to exclude emergency abortion care before the law was enacted. Upon revisiting the law, we decided to remove it from our “Abortion Care Access and Funding” section.
